The wait is finally over.
The 2026/27 Premier League season kicks off this weekend, with reigning champions Arsenal welcoming newly promoted Coventry City to the Emirates.
After a summer of huge transfers, managerial changes and plenty of speculation, we’re finally going to get some answers.
Here are our predictions for the opening weekend.
Arsenal 2–0 Coventry City
It’s a huge opening fixture for Coventry, returning to the Premier League after 25 years away.
Unfortunately for them, their first game back is against the reigning champions.
Arsenal have plenty of quality and should have too much for Coventry, although the visitors could make things uncomfortable.
Result: Arsenal win
BTTS: No
Hull City 1–2 Manchester United
Hull will have an enormous home crowd behind them, but Manchester United have plenty to prove themselves.
I expect Hull to make this difficult, but United should have enough quality to take all three points.
Result: Manchester United win
Goals: Over 2.5
BTTS: Yes
Ipswich Town 1–1 Sunderland
Two sides who know each other well from their time in the Championship now meet in the Premier League.
Both will be desperate to make a positive start, but I think they’ll cancel each other out.
Result: Draw
Goals: Under 2.5
BTTS: Yes
Newcastle United 2-3 Liverpool
This is the game I’m most interested in.
Two huge clubs, plenty of attacking quality and plenty of questions surrounding both sides.
I think this could be one of the games of the weekend.
Result: Away
Goals: Over 2.5

Corners: Over 8.5
Manchester City 3–1 Bournemouth
Manchester City are entering a completely new era under Enzo Maresca.
There are questions about whether they’ll immediately return to their best, but they still have an enormous amount of quality.
Result: Manchester City win
Goals: Over 2.5
BTTS: Yes
Brentford 1–2 Tottenham
Tottenham have a point to prove after a disappointing campaign.
Brentford won’t make this easy at home, but I’m backing Spurs to begin the new era with three points.
Result: Tottenham win
Goals: Over 2.5
Brighton 2-2 Aston Villa
Two sides with ambitions of competing towards the top half of table and into European competitions.
I expect this to be a competitive game, but neither side quite doing enough to win it.
Result: Draw

Everton 1–1 Crystal Palace
Everton will be looking to continue moving away from the relegation conversation, while Palace will have their own ambitions.
I’m expecting a tight game.
Result: Draw

Nottingham Forest 1–1 Leeds United
Leeds will be hoping not to suffer from second season syndrome and will be desperate for a positive start.
Forest won’t make it easy, but I’m going for a draw.
Result: Draw

Fulham 1–2 Chelsea
Fulham have strengthened this summer and won’t be pushovers, but Chelsea have huge expectations and plenty of attacking quality.
I’m backing the visitors to edge it.
Result: Chelsea win
Goals: Over 2.5
