The EFL season is only two games old, but we’re already getting some interesting fixtures.
Rather than predict all 36 matches across the three divisions, we’ve picked eight games that caught our eye — four from the Championship, two from League One and two from League Two.
Here are our calls.
🏆 Championship
QPR 2–1 Bolton Wanderers
I’m starting with this one for obvious reasons.
QPR opened their campaign with a brilliant 3–1 win away at Portsmouth, while Bolton are making the step up from League One.
Loftus Road should be bouncing, and I think QPR will have too much attacking quality.
I’m backing the R’s to make it two wins from two.
Result: QPR win
Goals: Over 2.5

West Brom 1–2 Burnley
This is probably the biggest Championship game of the weekend.
West Brom made a winning start, while Burnley are looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League after relegation. The Clarets began their campaign against West Ham and now face another difficult match.
West Brom won’t make this easy, but I think Burnley’s quality will eventually tell.
Result: Burnley win
Goals: Over 2.5

Lincoln City 1–1 Portsmouth
Two sides with plenty to prove.
Lincoln are newly promoted to the Championship, while Portsmouth will be desperate to respond after losing their opening game to QPR.
This feels like a tight one.
I’m expecting both teams to score, but neither to quite find the winner.
Result: Draw

Preston North End 1–2 Wolves
Wolves are another club who will be expecting to challenge near the top after dropping into the Championship.
Preston are always capable of making Deepdale a difficult place to visit, but I think Wolves have enough quality to come away with the points.
Result: Wolves win
Goals: Over 2.5

🔵 League One
Luton Town 2–1 Notts County
Luton couldn’t have made a more entertaining start to life in League One.
Their opening game ended in a ridiculous 4–3 win over Reading, coming from 3–1 down at half-time.
Now they face Notts County at Kenilworth Road.
I’m expecting another entertaining afternoon — and another Luton victory.
Result: Luton win
Goals: Over 2.5
BTTS: Yes
Both teams are looking for their first League One points — Doncaster lost 2–1 at Mansfield, while Barnsley lost 1–0 to Bromley.
I’d now go:
Doncaster 1–1 Barnsley
Result: Draw
Goals: Under 2.5

🟡 League Two
Salford City 1–1 Chesterfield
Neither side got the start they would have wanted.
Salford were beaten 3–1 away at Barnet, while Chesterfield suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Fleetwood.
Both will be looking for a response, but I think this could be a much tighter game than the opening results suggest.
Result: Draw
Goals: Under 2.5
BTTS: Yes
Colchester United 2–1 Oldham Athletic
Colchester came away from Accrington with a 2–2 draw on the opening weekend, while Oldham made a winning start by beating Port Vale 2–0.
Colchester have home advantage here, and I think that could be enough to edge what should be a competitive game.
Result: Colchester win
